We are a vibrant and growing country church established in 1883. Our worship service usually lasts an hour and is a blend of contemporary and traditional music with a message from God's word. We're not about dress codes and rules, but about worshiping God and growing in His grace. We would love to have the oppotunity to welcome you into our community as we strive to become people who glorify God by helping one another grow to know Him and serve Him.

Sun Prairie is one of the 1,281 churches of Converge Worldwide, formerly known as the Baptist General Converence. We are active in our region of churches known as Converge Heartland. Within this regional affiliation we participate in prison ministrries, church planting and youth Bible camps.

In the spring of 1883 the Rev. C.M. Widen and his wife came to the Sun Prairie Township area from Sweden and conducted services in various homes of mostly Swedish immigrants. On Sunday, June 3, 1883, under Widen’s leadership, a group of seven people met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Lindell and organized a Baptist Church.
The church meetings soon moved to the newly constructed Hokan Erickson Country School and continued there for the next 16 years.
From 1891 to 1899 a series of student pastors served the church, and quite frequently the lay leaders conducted the services. This period of time brought steady growth to the little Swedish Baptist Church. A revival in 1899 resulted in the baptism of 25 new believers which meant that a new building would be needed. Sun Prairie’s first building was dedicated in the spring of 1900.
By 1913 some thirteen members of Sun Prairie formed the nucleus of a group which organized into Ramsey Baptist Church.
Soon after the church building was dedicated a parsonage was built, which was moved to Unityville in 1917 when the current parsonage was built. The new parsonage was built by a local, up and coming carpenter as a model home. Over the years it has been updated to accommodate the pastoral families who have enjoyed living here.
In the following decades God would continue to grow His church at Sun Prairie until the farm crisis of the 70s and 80s. Yet, in 1983, due to a God sized vision and generous donations of Sun Prairie members, a large addition was constructed which included six classrooms, pastor’s study, a nursery, expanded foyer, elevator and four restrooms. Then again in 2023, as classroom and meeting spaces were too small to accomadate the growing number of people, an addition with 4 new classrooms, 2 restrooms, 2 offices and a "Great Room" were added. We praise God for the vision and generosity of those who pursued such large undertakings in order that we might continue to equip more people to know and serve God.
Sun Prairie is a congregation that currently averages 200 people at Sunday worship; which includes a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles. Recent upgrades in AV systems have made the ministries more dynamic and accessible to a larger audience. We actively minister to all ages with a strong Christian Education program. We participate in the world wide mission of Converge Worldwide.
